UNIDUR N

Universal ready-to-use solvent-free primer and adhesion promoter

Uses

UNIDUR N Primer is a ready-to-use solvent-free primer and adhesion promoter that increases adhesion between self-levelling compounds and substrates like: concrete slabs, mechanically planed concrete, existing ceramic tiles, terracotta, semi-flexible and vinyl-asbestos floor tiles, residues of all old acrylic and neoprene adhesives, and also waterproof particle boards, plywood before application of self-levelling compound .

It can be used with industrial flooring compounds indoors and outdoors.

When used diluted it controls and reduces porosity of cement-based absorbent substrates.

For interior and exterior use.

Benefits

  • Improves and provides bond-strength of self-levelling compounds
  • Acts as a bonding agent on different types of substrates
  • Easy to use and to apply  with a roller
  • Odourless: can be used in all types of locations

Properties

Physical:

  • Primer Type: water-based solution of synthetic resins
  • Colour: blue
  • Dry film colour: translucent blue
  • Specific gravity (NF: T76.300): approx. 1.05± 0.01 g/cm³
  • Non-flammable
  • Over-coating: self-levelling compounds must be applied within 12 hours after primer application
  • Drying time: approx. 30 minutes for absorbent substrates; 1½-2 hours for impervious substrates (subject to temperature, relative humidity and porosity of the substrate)
  • Working temperature : Preferably between +10°C and +25°C. Material and substrate temperature not below +10°C
  • Freeze/Thaw stable to –5°C

Consumption:

Approx. 90-100 g/m² per coat, depending on the substrate.

Safety:

IMPORTANT: before embarking on any work involving UNIDUR N Primer the separate Product Safety Data Sheet must be studied carefully by those carrying out the work.
Observe good hygiene in use. Avoid skin and eye contact. Do not breathe vapours.
Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Shelf life:

Up to 24 months in the original, unopened container, stored at +5°C and +30°. Frost-resistant down to -5°C.

Application

PREPARATION

Preparation should be in accordance with building standards. Subfloors must be sound, of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond.
Adhesive residues that are hard, sound and water-tight should be mechanically cut-back to a minimum.
Soft and weak adhesive residues, paint, and gypsum residues should be completely removed.
Substrate moisture content during application must not exceed 3%. If not, use EPONAL 376 Moisture Vapour Barrier coating.

APPLICATION

Absorbent substrates
Apply 1:1 water-diluted primer evenly in a thin coat using a foam or short-pile roller (coverage: approx. 100 g/m² per coat). Do not over apply and avoid puddle formation. Allow to dry for approx. 30 minutes. Several subsequent layers may be necessary to completely impregnate the substrate. After the primer has dried completely, over-coat with self-levelling compounds (drying time depending on the substrate absorbency, humidity, temperature conditions and quantity of the primer applied).
For anhydrite screed allow to dry for 24 hours before overcoating.

Impervious substrates
Apply undiluted primer evenly in a thin coat using a short-pile roller (coverage: approx. 90-100 g/m²). Do not over apply and avoid puddle formation. Allow to dry for approx. 60 minutes prior to over-coating with a self-levelling compound.
Smoothing and levelling compounds must be applied within 6 to 12 hours after primer application.

Anhydrite screeds
Check moisture content (it should not exceed 0.5%).
The surface of anhydrite screed should be sanded in order to eliminate traces of paints, mortars, plaster, etc. and suface layer of anhydrite screed.
Apply undiluted primer (coverage: approx. 100 g/m²) and allow to dry for at least 24 hours before application of self-levelling compounds.

REMARKS
 - Underfloor heating systems must comply with current building regulations. Turn off the heating 48 hours before starting the work. The heating should be turned up to its operating temperatures gradually, in stages over 48 hours after laying the floor covering. Do not apply when underfloor heating is in operation.
- In all cases, always observe the drying time.

Cleaning
Clean tools and fresh spillages with water.
