ROXOL XPS

Fast-setting self-levelling compound for heavy duty locations

Uses

ROXOL XPS  self-levelling compound is suitable for smoothing and levelling of screeds, concrete floors and other hard, rigid bases, up to a maximum thickness of 15 mm in a single work step.

ROXOL XPS  is suitable for hard wear in commercial and industrial locations where service is only interrupted for few hours (hypermarkets and stores, hospitals, factories and workshops, public buildings). After only 4 hours the smoothed surface is ready for laying floor coverings.

Suitable for heavy-duty areas/locations with high point loading (with or withour wheeled traffic).

Suitable for renovating concrete floors damaged by vehicle traffic (e.g. car parks).

Can be used to fill depressions and drainage ditches of all depths and all types of substrates.

Can be used as a wearing surface. For interior and exterior use.

Benefits

  • Fast hydraulic setting
  • High resistance to puncture and abrasion.
  • Ready for floorcovering after 4 hours
  • Can stay uncovered or be covered with all types of paint (polyurethane, epoxy, etc) and floorcoverings (soft or rigid floorcoverings: rubber, parquet, ceramic tiles, etc).
  • Applied from 3 to 15 mm in one step, from 3 to 30 mm when blended with 0.4-0.9 mm sand
  • Suitable for underfloor heating
  • Easy to apply: good smoothing properties

Application

PREPARATION
Subfloors must be sound, of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond.

Substrate residual moisture content must be less than 3%.
For anhydrite slabs, moisture content should be less than 1% for laying textile coverings and ceramic tiles, 0.5% for laying plastic coverings and parquet floors.

The following substrates must be pre-treated with suitable Bostik primers and bonding agents:

Unidur 10
Unidur N

Primepox

(1) - 1:3 to 1:5 water-diluted depending on porosity and number of layers

PRECAUTION: Before using primer read the primer data sheet carefully and respect our recommendations for ground preparation.
Before proceeding with the subsequent application of the compound, always allow primers to dry in accordance with the technical information.

When applying our compound to medium- to large-sized sites, the site should be divided into areas or strips so that perfect joints can be made between the various batches of coating that are prepared. These areas or strips should be marked out beforehand on a sketch, laid out in an aesthetic manner suited to the premises. The boundaries between zones should be made with wooden strips (e.g. 5 x 5) fixed to the floor, or by applying adhesive tapes to the dry primed surface. The coating is then applied to alternating zones.

MANUAL APPLICATION
Pour 4.5 litres of cold, clean water into a clean mixing bucket. Stir the compound powder into a water with an electric drill and mixing paddle to obtain a lump-free mixture (maximum speed 500 rpm).
After mixing, a maturing time of at least 1 minute is recommended to optimise flow.
The smoothing and levelling compound must be applied to the substrate within the specified working time and smoothed with a trowel.
Hint: For thicker layers, using a spiked roller will help air evacuation and improve surface finish.
For layers above 10 mm thickness, ROXOL XPS could be blended with sharp sand (see below). The additive is stirred in as the last component, after initial mixing of the compound. With added sand it is used like a mortar. Adjust the thickness by drawing a horizontal wooden plank over the surface. It is possible to make slopes. The surface is then finished using a standard coating applied to a thickness of at least 3 mm.

Unblended compound
Approx. 4.5 litres of water per 25 kg bag
Consumption: approx. 1.6 kg/m² per mm thickness
Blended compound
Approx. 4.5 litres of water per 25 kg bag
+ 8 kg 0.4-0.9 mm sharp sand
Consumption: approx. 2 kg/m² per mm thickness

Protect from excessively rapid drying, e.g. due to direct sunlight, draught or high room temperature. Conversely,  poor airflow and low temperatures will significantly increase drying times. Do not lay floor coverings until the compound is completely dry.

MECHANICAL PREPARATION (PUMPABLE)
ROXOL XPS can be mixed using a continuous "mixing-pump". In this case the optimum water content is regulated on the basis of product viscosity. This one must be equal to the viscosity obtained by standard mixing of 1 bag in 4.5 litres of water.
Once mixed, ROXOL XPS is pumped and applied to the desired thickness (15 mm maximum in one single continuous coat).
Any subsequent application of ROXOL XPS is best performed as soon as the first layer is set for walking but still damp. If it is dry, an intermediate primer coat of water-based primer UNIDUR N or PRIMA (diluted) is required.

CLEANING
Tools may be cleaned with water whilst the mix is still wet.
