L80 Multibond Gold

Acrylic dispersion adhesive for bonding most common floor coverings to most common substrates

Uses

Multipurpose floor covering adhesive for internal use. It will bond most PVC sheet (including cushion types) and tiles as well as most carpets to most common substrates.

It can be applied to asphalt, concrete, sand/cement screeds, chipboards, hardboard, plywood and smoothing compounds. For further information please contact Bostik Technical Service.

Suitable for use where there are underfloor heating installations, (surface floor temperature must not exceed 27°C). However heating should be switched off at least 48 hours before and after the installation of floor covering.

Benefits

  • Off-white appearance with minimal odour
  • Special formula for high degree of tack in dry film and to minimise the effects of plasticiser migration
  • Suitable for underfloor heating installations

Application

All phases of the installation should comply with the latest edition of the following standards :
  • BS CP102 Code of Pratice for protection of building against water from the ground.
  • BS 5325 Code of Practice for the installation of textile floor coverings.
  • BS 8203 Code of Practice for installation of resilient floor coverings.
Subfloor : Ensure the subfloor is clean, sound, dry and free from contaminants that may hinder adhesion, including surface hardeners and additives. It should also have an effective damp-proof membrane. The subfloor should be tested in accordance with British Standards, using a properly calibrated and insulated hygrometer. A reading of 75% RH or less confirms that the subfloor is satisfactorily dry. Where this has not been attained, it is necessary to apply a ScreedMaster surface membrane to suppress residual moisture. For further information contact Bostik Technical Service.

Smoothing compounds: Mechanically remove any surface treatments on concrete bases. Repair any deep indentations in the subfloor with a rapid repair mortar (Plycorapid). When floor requires smoothing, apply a suitable ScreedMaster smoothing compound at a minimum thickness of 3mm. ScreedMaster 2 is suitable for areas of normal or high intensity foot traffic. ScreedMaster 1 is necessary for areas subjected th heavy loads.

Existing floor coverings: Bonding over existing floorcoverings should be avoided wherever possible as results can not be guaranteed. However when bonding soft floorcoverings over hard floorcoverings all traces of polish and surface contaminants must be removed and any cleaning agent washed off with clean water. Hard floor coverings should not be bonded over existing hard floor coverings. Stripping of existing floor coverings should be done using a suitable Wolff floor stripper. In addition, at least 75% of the residual adhesive must be removed prior to the application of ScreedMaster 2 at a minimum thickness of 3 mm. For situations where the floor covering cannot be removed, contact our Technical Service.

Priming: Surfaces  should be  thoroughly cleaned (preferably vacuumed). Prime boards and other porous surfaces with Gripfill PVA (diluted 1:5 with clean water) or Universal  Primer and allow to dry. This is particularly important with hardboard, chipboard and plywood. Ensure that the floor covering manufacturer recommends the floor covering for use with the particular substrate.

APPLICATION
Porous surfaces:
Sspread evenly over the floor surface with a triangular-notched trowel cut 1.5mm deep at 5mm centres. For coarse or embossed backings, the notch size should be increased to 2mm deep at 6mm centres, or deeper if recommended by the floorcovering manufacturer. The adhesive should be spread with a sweeping motion at a 60° angle. After 15 minutes the floor covering may be placed into position and rolled as recommended. (At this stage the adhesive will still be wet). The floor coverings should then be protected for a further 24 hours before being subjected to trafficking.

Non / Low-porous surfaces:
When laying into non porous or low porosity surfaces ef. Asphalt apply ScreedMaster 2 smoothing compound to a depth of 3 mm and allow to dry overnight. Application can then proceed as for porous surfaces.
However where circumstances prclude this treatment either of the following methods should be used :
a) lay the floor covering into wet adhesive and apply pressure to obtain good contact. Pull back immediately and allow the adhesive to reach a touch tacky state.
b) allow the adhesive on the floor to reach a touch tacky state, then place the floor covering and press firmly overall to obtain contact.
The first method is preferred where non porous floor coverings or those with an inherent culr are being installed.

FINISHING
It is essential to ensure good overall contact between the floor covering and adhesive. This may be achieved by the use of a 68Kg Wolff roller or other method recommended by the floor covering manufacturer.
