FIRECAULK +

Fire-rated sealant

Uses

Bostik Firecaulk + is used for sealing expansion, contraction and construction joints where compartmentation and movement are factors ; as a sealing compound for locating fire resistant board systems ; to seal gaps which occur between fire-rated building components and the surronding structures i.e. window and door frames ; and as a service penetration seal system for both cables and pipes.

Benefits

  • Colour : white
  • Aspect : gunnable paste
  • Excellent adhesion to most firm, clean and dry surfaces.
  • Does not slump from vertical joints up to 30 mm width.
  • Gives up to 4 hours fire resistance in suitable structures

Properties

Physical:

  • Assessed to BS476:Part 20:1987 (listed on Warrington Middle East scheme, see  www.warringtonefire.net/mideast)
  • Joint movement accomodation : ± 12.5 % overall
  • Forms a tack-free skin within approx. 15 minutes of application. Full cure is rapid, dependent upon joint size.
  • Life expectancy : up to 15 years

Consumption:

0.0036 x M x C = nb of cartridge to be used (M = length of joint in meters, C = cross-sectional area of joint in square millimetres)

Safety:

Before embarking on any work involving Firecaulk +, the separate Safety Data Sheet should be carefully studied by those carrying out the work.

Application

Surface preparation :
All joint surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from oil and grease, dust and other loose material. Oil and grease should be removed from non-pourous substrate using a suitable cleaner. In order to provide a firm base on which to extrude the sealant, and also to ensure that adequate depth of sealant is maintained, movement joints should be backed with a suitable foam backing strip such as polyethylene.

Application :
Cut the cartridge nozzle at an angle at the point required to provide a suitable diameter bead of sealant.
Cut off the dome at the top of the cartrdige without damaging the thread and screw the nozzle onto it.
Fit the cartridge into the caulking gun the force Firecaulk + into the joint, ensuring that it makes full contact with the sides.

The sealant surface can be tooled to a smooth finish using a tooling stick or trowel dipped in dilute detergent within 3-5 minutes. Do not use a wetted finger.
