DURCISSEUR ALCOOL

Fast drying solvent based primer for wall and floor coverings

Uses

QUELYD DURCISSEUR ALCOOL Primer is a ready-to-use liquid solvent-based vinyl primer suitable for the preparation of : surfaces with residues of all old adhesives, anhydrite screeds, asphalt screeds, water-proof and fire-proof particle boards and plywood, plasterboard floors and wall plaster, existing moisture-resistant or not plaster-based coatings.

For interior use only.

Benefits

  • Fast drying: 30 minutes at +20°C
  • Improves/promotes the adhesion of self-levelling compounds and adhesives on treated subfloors
  • Controls porosity of absorbent surfaces
  • Suitable with all types of adhesives (vinyl, acrylic, neoprene, polyurethane, epoxy and bituminous)
  • Economical coverage: low consumption

Properties

Physical:

  • Primer Type: alcohol solution of synthetic resins
  • Colour: Translucent red
  • Specific gravity: approx. 0.83 g/cm³
  • Working temperature : Preferably between +10°C and +25°C. Material and substrate temperature not below +10°C
  • Drying time: 30 minutes (at +23°C, relative humidity of 55% on normally absorbent substrates)
  • Frost-resistant

Consumption:

Approx. 100 g/m² per coat, depending on the substrate and method of application.

Safety:

IMPORTANT: before embarking on any work involving QUELYD DURCISSEUR ALCOOL Primer the separate Product Safety Data Sheet must be studied carefully by those carrying out the work.

Observe good hygiene in use. Avoid skin and eye contact. Do not breathe vapours.
Contains flammable solvents: ventilate well during and after use. Do not smoke and avoid the use of naked lights, keep away from flames, sparks and static electricity. Inform the workers and other trades of these precautions. Tightly close all containers after use and keep them in a well ventilated place.

Shelf life:

Up to 12 months in the original, unopened container, stored at +5°C and +30°.

Application

PREPARATION

Preparation should be in accordance with building standards. Subfloors must be sound, of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond.
Anhydrite screeds must first be mechanically sanded and thoroughly vacuumed.
Adhesive residues that are hard, sound and water-tight should be mechanically cut-back to a minimum.
Soft and weak adhesive residues and smoothing underlayments should be completely removed.

APPLICATION

Apply the primer evenly in a thin coat using a short-pile roller (coverage: approx. 100 g/m² per coat). Do not over apply and avoid puddle formation. Allow to dry for approx. 30 minutes (drying time depending on the substrate absorbency, humidity, temperature conditions and quantity of the primer applied).
For pore sealing application on absorbent substrates (wood, particleboards, plasterboards, anhydrite screeds) several subsequent layers may be necessary. Apply the second coat at right angles to the first coat (waiting time of 30 minutes should be observed between two coats). The use of a roller is necessary for rough surfaces (e.g. old adhesive residues)
Only perform subsequent work after complete drying. If in doubt delay.
Smoothing and levelling underlayment should be applied within 30 minutes (at +23°C).

REMARKS

- Underfloor heating systems must comply with current building regulations. In all cases drying time must be respected. Turn off the heating 48 hours before starting the work. The heating should be turned up to its operating temperatures gradually, in stages over 48 hours after laying the floor covering. Do not apply when underfloor heating is in operation. In all cases, observe the drying time.

Cleaning
Clean tools and spillages with solvent whilst the primer is still wet.

Dry splashes can only be removed mechanically.
