CHRONOCHAP®

Uses

CHRONOCHAP® is a pre-blended ready to use mortar with high setting and drying properties suitable for producing bonded and floating screeds prior to installation of ceramic tiles, PVC coverings, linoleum, carpeting and parquet flooring. It can be used for slope forming finishes.
CHRONOCHAP®  is suitable for forming rapid screeds from 10 to 60mm thickness.
Can be used onto concrete floors, cement screeds, pre-cast concrete, existing floor tiles.
Suitable for underfloor heating.

Associated floorcoverings:

  • Ceramic tiles and parquet can be installed directly on the screed
  • Carpeting, plastic floorcovering, rubber, linoleum can be bonded after self-levelling compound has been laid onto screed
  • Industrial flooring, paints

Benefits

  • Ready to use
  • Fast-setting and rapid-drying: ready to receive coverings after only 2-3 hours for ceramic tiles and after 24 hours for parquet
  • Highly malleable: easy to apply and perfect finish
  • Especially suitable for high point load
  • Ideal for producing sloping finish
  • Thicness of application: from 5 to 60mm

Safety:

IMPORTANT: before embarking on any work involving CHRONOCHAP® the separate Product Safety Data Sheet must be studied carefully by those carrying out the work.

Do not breath dust, PREVENT skin and eye contact with powder and particularly the wet material when mixed. Strong alkali when wet – can cause serious eye damage and may cause an allergic reaction resulting in skin disorders.

Shelf life:

Up to 6 months in the original unopened bag in dry conditions.

Application

PREPARATION
Subfloors must be sound, dry (not subject to rising damp); of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond.
All major holes must be filled with ROXOL RENO QUICK.
Adhesive residues that are hard, sound and water-tight should be mechanically cut-back to a minimum.

APPLICATION

Use approx. 2.2 to 2.4 litres of clean water per 25 kg bag. Mix CHRONOCHAP®  with water in a cement mixer or a truck mixer for 2 to 3 minutes.
As the mixture tends to set rapidly, at breaks in work, immediately empty and clean out mixer, pump and hoses.
Apply the mixture to the subfloor, tamp, adjust and smooth to obtain the desired thickness and surface finish. Ratio of hydraulic binders: 350 kg/m3.
Ensure that surface-, movement- and expansion joints are set professionally. Joints should be marked clearly to allow saw cutting once the topping has cured (24 hours).

Bonded screeds on bonding slurry (5 to 60 mm thickness for heavy duty areas)
Make a bonding slurry using 2 parts of CHRONOCIM® or good quality cement powder, and 1 part of PRIMAIRE CIM  or LATEX 400 and 1 part of water. Apply the bonding slurry onto the pre-wetted substrate and lay the rapid screed mortar into it wet.

Bonded screeds on binding primer (5 to 30 mm thickness for premises with high traffic)
Apply ARDAPREN NF primer at a rate of 150 g/m². Allow to dry for 30 minutes. Apply CHRONOCHAP®  screed mortar.

Screeds on separating membrane/insulation layer (40 to 60mm thickness for heavy duty areas).
Place a separating membrane over the subfloor (e.g. polyethylene insulating sheet of minimum 150 µm) in conformity with building regulations. Place isolating material (such as polystyrene foam) around the perimeter of the area and around columns in order to separate walls from the screed. In case of work interruption (more than 30 minutes) place steel rods 30cm long and 6mm in diameter, spaced 30 cm apart (which has been cut perpendicular to the substrate). It will ensure a transition between the old pours and the new ones, which will be done on the bonding slurry.

Floating screeds (40 to 60mm thickness for heavy duty areas).
Place an insulation layer over the subfloor in conformity with building regulations.

REMARKS
- In hot weather apply a primer or a bonding slurry in order to protect from excessively rapid drying.
- Do not add water once the mixture has started to set.
- Do not mix CHRONOCHAP®  with other cement powders or sand.
- Do not add excessive quantity of water as it will change the mortar’s performances.
- Protect from excessively rapid drying, e.g. due to direct sunlight, draught or high room temperature. Conversely,  poor airflow and low temperatures will significantly increase drying times.
- Do not lay floor coverings until the compound is completely dry.
- Do not use on friable, deformed, permanently wet substrates or substrate without finishing covering outdoors.
