SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Before starting the work, check the substrate in order to determine substrate treatment to be done (cleaning, scabbing, priming, filling cracks, expansion and construction joints).
Preparation should be in accordance with building standards. Subfloors must be sound, of adequate tensile and compressive strength; free from laitance, cracks and structural defects; clean and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, sealers or any other contaminants that would inhibit proper bond.
Cracks up to 2mm can be sealed with ARDALON 2K PLUS, apply Sealing tape ARDATOILE 120 over the first coat of ARDALON 2K PLUS. Arising cracks wider than 0.3mm must be treated with EPONAL 342.
Moving joints and joints between floors and walls must be sealed with Sealing tape ARDATOILE. The tape is placed in the first coat of ARDALON 2K PLUS.
Residual moisture content of substrates should not exceed 5% (0.5% for anhydrite screeds).
Before the first application of ARDALON 2K PLUS, dry and absorbent substrates should be wet lightly.
The pre-wetting water must be absorbed by the substrate before the first coating of ARDALON 2K PLUS is applied.
APPLICATION
For walls: Mix approx. 3/4 of the liquid component with the entire content of powder component using machine with a spiral stirrer (< 500 rpm) until homogenous and lump-free mixture is obtained.
For floors: Mix approx. 3/4 of the liquid component with the entire content of powder component using machine with a spiral stirrer (< 500 rpm) until homogenous and lump-free mixture is obtained. Then the rest of the liquid component (1/4) is added and the mixture is stirred well once again. Stirring time: 2-4 minutes.
ARDALON 2K PLUS can be applied:
- by a sheepskin roller (12mm pile) in 2 coats of 1.2mm thickness each
- by a smoothing trowel in 2 coats of 1.2mm thickness each
- by a notched trowel (U4): first coat should be applied in the same manner you apply tiling adhesive, than the second coat is applied using a smoothing trowel in order to fill in serrations created by notched trowel.
WET ROOMS, BALCONIES, LOGGIAS AND TERRACES
Coating with ARDALON 2K PLUS must be performed in at least 2 work steps.
The minimum thickness: 2.4mm against water pressure (consumption: approx. 4.0 kg/m²).
In order to comply with French APSEL standard the thickness should be at least 3mm (3 coats needed).
SEALING SWIMMING POOLS IN COMBINATION WITH CERAMIC TILES
A pool body that is free of cracks and deformations is required for the installation of seals. Moving or working joints must be sealed with a jointing tape embedded into the concrete.
ARDALON 2K PLUS must be applied on the side of the pool facing the water. It must form a closed trough and generally continue to above the highest water level. Swimming pools situated in the earth also require protection from the outside.
For salt-water spas, sealing and bonding with reaction resin compounds with epoxy resin base may be required according to the analysis of the bath water.
After completion of the sealing work and before starting the tiling work, the effectiveness of the seal must be tested with a test filling that lasts at least 2 weeks.
Pipe passages and floor drains should be equipped with flanges so that the surface sealing can be connected to them.
Coating with ARDALON 2K PLUS in swimming pools is performed in 3 work steps. The minimum thickness for 3 coatings is 3mm (consumption: approx. 5 kg/m²).
Apply into wet coat of ARDALON 2K PLUS (2 kg/m²) jointing tape ARDATOILE EPDM 10ML or ARDATOILE EPDM 50ML in areas between wall and floor, cracks, joints, around pipes. Use Sealing tape JOINT D’ANGLE on internal and external corners.
TILING AND GROUTING
Allow to dry for at least 24 hours before tile fixing. Use ARDAFLEX T2, ARDAFLEX PLUS, ARDAFLEX F, ARDAFLEX HPS or ARDAL EPOCOLOR.
Grouting should be done 24 hours after tile fixing. Use ARDAJOINT XL or ARDAJOINT FLEX (on deformable and exterior subfloors).
